Random Pics

I love finding random pictures all over the internet and I've started sort of collecting them in a folder on my desktop. Here are a few of my favorites pictures. Things that I find interesting, funny, and thoughtful. To take a closer look, either click on the picture or follow the link.

I love Lindsay Joysal's photography. It's all very soft and soothing. I love this because it's like a colored version of some of Ansel Adam's work.

This one of course reminds me of my love.
I found this at don't touch my moleskine @ world press, but you can also find great thought provoking diagrams similar to this at www.thisisindexed.com.

I'm a sucker for cutesy. But this cutesy poster includes a message I agree with completely and have learned the hard way. Life is short! Do whatever makes you happy now rather than later!

Interesting guy who creates interesting art. Check out his art and read his bio. His personal profile is very haunting and personal.

This one is just plain cutesy and I love it. It's currently my twitter background :P It reminds me of something I would see on a 7th grade girls notebook... yikes

I love the colors in this painting. It sort of reminds me of Georgia O'Keefe's "View From the Lake".

Part of me really wants to get a huge tattoo like this, or maybe a sleeve.. haha

Quotes

In 2005 I started using the website Thinkexist.com, which is basically a database of quotes. It allows you to create albums and save quotes within each album. Over the years I've created an album for each year since 2005. I recently went back through each of them to check out what I considered a good quote during that time. Some of them brought back memories from that particular year, and others still resonate with me today. Here are some of my favorites, one's that I think I'll always love.

“I want to shake off the dust of this one-horse town. I want to explore the world. I want to watch TV in a different time zone. I want to visit strange, exotic malls...I want to live…”
~Dan Castellaneta

“When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure
~Peter Marshall

Always do what you’re afraid to do.”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

“I laugh, I love, I hope, I try, I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry. And I know you do the same things too, So we're really not that different, me and you.”
-Colin Raye

“It is easy to be pleasant when life flows by like a song, but the man worth while is the one who will smile when everything goes dead wrong. For the test of the heart is trouble, and it always comes with years, and the smile that is worth the praises of earth is the smile that shines through the tears.”
~Irish Sayings

“A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures”
~Irish Sayings

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
~Mark Twain

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”
~ Charles R. Swindoll

“Really great people make you feel that you, too, can become great.”
~Mark Twain

Run, Run, Run

I'm really starting to love running. I usually go through these stages where I run a lot and then I fizzle out, and then I start again, and I fizzle out again... and so on. So far this time I've ran consistently at least five times a week, and I'm up to about 3.5 miles. YEAH! :) For a retired shot-putter that's pretty good!

That being said, I'm still not running very fast, about a 10 minute mile. So it takes me just under 35 minutes to run 3.5miles. I'm also increasing my distances very slowly. Every two weeks I add about a 1/2 mile. I'm not really sure how this is supposed to progress, and I pretty sure I'm progressing slower than most, but it seems to be working for me. I really think that's the key though. Taking my time with this will really help me stick with it and foster a hobby I really enjoy doing. I'm going to try to avoid fizzling out and continue to improve. I'm planning on running this 5k and then working my way up to a half marathon. Should be fun!

"Baby" the Boston Terrier

Yesterday my sister Megan and I decided to go to the mall to do some shopping. We stopped at the pet store, which was a baaaad choice. We both desperately want a dog. When we walked in they had a bunch of different puppies in glass cubes that allowed you to pet and pick up the puppies. One puppy in particular caught my eye, a TINY Boston Terrier. Her cube was blocked off so that people couldn't pet her and she was shaking. She looked so scared, I felt bad for her. A women who worked there allowed me to take her out and take her to a puppy room.

She was a little shy at first...

But then started to warm up...

We were soooo close to buying her, but the $1500 price tag put a stop to that. I feel bad for dogs in pet shops. Hopefully she goes to a good home.

"Never let go of hope. One day you will see that it all has finally come together. What you have always wished for has finally come to be. You will look back and laugh at what has passed and you will ask yourself... 'How did I get through all of that?"
